The referee ignored Club Atlético Los Andes's protests and gave Ricardo Haitz a yellow card for diving instead. In the 32nd minute Victoriano Gilen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leopoldo Gitano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Club Atlético Los Andes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leopoldo Gitano should have stopped the shot. Leopoldo Gitano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victoriano Gilen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jacobo Asier got free with Guido Aguirre in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 88 minutes into the game, Adolfo Casado cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 8-1. Leopoldo Gitano was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Victoriano Gilen in the 92nd minute of play forced Club Atlético Los Andes's goalkeeper Leopoldo Gitano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 94th minute, Jacobo Asier got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
