An unexpected shot in the 22nd minute by Artemio Filipo got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Raul Goyo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sabahattin Erten having to interfere. Rolando Bela kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. 26 minutes into the game, one of United:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 32ndth minute of the game Artemio Filipo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but United's Sabahattin Erten was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sabahattin Erten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Artemio Filipo in the 33rd minute of play. Rene Chale took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rolando Bela, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Modesto Peirano hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Raul Goyo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sabahattin Erten breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hernan Emmanuel got free with Rene Chale in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Teodosio Tulio's late challenge caught a United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Teodosio Tulio helped the player get up and apologised.
