The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gelu Lovin in the 6th minute of play forced Newell´s's goalkeeper Jesus Gitano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 7 minutes into the match, León FC's goal looked a bit too open when Camilo Tartalo came free, but David Ospina reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Hernan Malvin came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the León FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hernan Malvin couldn't finish the play. Thor Rosin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but David Ospina made a huge save. After the first half León FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

León FC's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
