With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ladislav Sovák prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 47th minute the ball was on its way in behind Deportivo Balvanera's goalkeeper Omar Lauren, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The throw-in from Eugenio Mena in the 51st minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Haedo Lokomotiv's Eusebio Rios. 53 minutes into the match, Luisito Ignado had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Omar Lauren. Deportivo Balvanera's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Luisito Ignado was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Renato Portalupi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Ladislav Sovák made a huge save. In the 69th minute Isaias Erroman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ladislav Sovák saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 75th minute, Eugenio Mena hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Deportivo Balvanera's François-Xavier Castello was substituted for Isaias Erroman. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Deportivo Balvanera players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
