Spectators: 6797 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1797, VIP seats: 0) 3 minutes into the game, Kilbirnie's Bob McOwl nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Charles Boyd made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 8th minute Murray McCansh shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Drew Tonnochy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 10 minutes into the game, Gus McQuistan cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Charles Boyd was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Kilbirnie's defense didn't have a chance, in the 14th minute, when Murray McCansh scored to the left of an out of position Drew Tonnochy, making the score, 1-2. 17 minutes into the match, Kilbirnie's goal looked a bit too open when Murray McCansh came free, but Drew Tonnochy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Dunoon booed when Kilbirnie was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Norman McHarold didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Murray McCansh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Gus McQuistan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Charles Boyd tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 32nd minute Gus McQuistan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Charles Boyd saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 35 minutes, Bob McOwl managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kilbirnie's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bob McOwl was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Charles Boyd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bob McOwl in the 39th minute of play. In the 43rd minute, Matt Risk hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Bob McOwl, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 45 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Charles Boyd was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Bob McOwl's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Charles Boyd was relentless in the 47th minute of the game. After the first half Kilbirnie were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

After 52 minutes, Wally McCaul mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dunoon and the Kilbirnie players grew even worse after the yellow card. Wally McCaul kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. After 57 played minutes Kilbirnie got a freekick which was hit by Anthony Porter. Jacob Suttie struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Drew Tonnochy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dunoon. Murray McCansh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Drew Tonnochy having to interfere. 64 minutes into the match, Jacob Suttie had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Drew Tonnochy. Kilbirnie's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jacob Suttie was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. After a defensive mix-up in Kilbirnie's zone, Jacob Suttie stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Drew Tonnochy came out of the goal and Jacob Suttie tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Gus McQuistan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bob McOwl blasted a shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Charles Boyd having to make a save. After 83 played minutes Dunoon got a freekick which was hit by Stuart Bell. Kilbirnie's Drew Tonnochy played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stuart Bell in the 87th minute of play. The attack was good, but when Jacob Suttie in the 88th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Bob McOwl fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Boyd having to interfere. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
