Bob McOwl fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivan Appleby having to interfere. 23 minutes into the game, Norman McHarold was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Kilbirnie's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Yarmouth United the free kick. Norman McHarold kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. After some careless play in the Yarmouth United defense, Gus McQuistan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ivan Appleby. The Yarmouth United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ivan Appleby should have stopped the shot. Bob McOwl sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 37 minutes, Colin Colville mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kilbirnie and the Yarmouth United players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Kilbirnie's Colin Colville got a free kick in the 37th minute. With a little luck, Kilbirnie's Drew Tonnochy got control of the ball when Tony McCartair tried to sneak it across the goal line. Steve Ellwood in the 41stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Drew Tonnochy, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 42nd minute, Terry Burdon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 43 minutes into the game, Kilbirnie's Gus McQuistan nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Drew Tonnochy made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Steve Ellwood in the 86th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Steve Ellwood in the 92nd minute of play forced Kilbirnie's goalkeeper Drew Tonnochy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
