The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 9 minutes of play, Sunderland's Anthony Limond made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benjamin Gilbertson was left in no man's land by his defense there! 13 minutes into the match, Sunderland's Anthony Limond sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Benjamin Gilbertson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Brandon Cameron in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benjamin Gilbertson saved Riverside United F.C from getting behind. Anthony Limond fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benjamin Gilbertson having to interfere. In the 20th minute, Brandon Cameron made a precise shot to the right of Benjamin Gilbertson. Riverside United F.C's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. If Anthony Limond had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nick McVey made a fantastic save in the 34th minute, when Callum Corbet sent off a good shot on target. If Callum Corbet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 43rd match minute, Sunderland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patrick Tolmie to maneuver through the defense. If Greig Linklater had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Callum Corbet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After the first half Sunderland were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Greig Linklater stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice moves Brandon Cameron could shoot a difficult shot in the 55th minute, which Benjamin Gilbertson however easily saved by the left post. In the 61st minute Lucas Dempster shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nick McVey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Euan Douglas hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. 68 minutes into the match, Sunderland's goal looked a bit too open when Greig Linklater came free, but Nick McVey reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 69 minutes, Benjamin Gilbertson successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 72nd minute, Callum Corbet got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 81 minutes into the match, Sunderland's goal looked a bit too open when Callum Corbet came free, but Nick McVey reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Elliot McPatrick hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. Nick McVey made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Greig Linklater in the 88th minute of play. In the 90thth minute of the game Greig Linklater who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sunderland's Nick McVey was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Sunderland's zone, Greig Linklater stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nick McVey came out of the goal and Greig Linklater tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Riverside United F.C supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Sunderland's performance. The match ended with a win for Sunderland.
