Walter Wylie was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Walter Wylie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nicholas Aspin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Barry Gilbert fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walter Wylie having to interfere. The supporters of Glasgow Rangers FC booed when St.Mirren was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Taylor Drysdale didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 29th minute, Barry Gilbert ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Walter Wylie was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Barry Gilbert in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Walter Wylie prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After the first half Glasgow Rangers FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Matthew Wilkie made a kick off. A collision led to Glasgow Rangers FC getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Tommy Bean hit a great ball. Barry Gilbert took the ball and in the 57 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Walter Wylie. Walter Wylie dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. In the 60th minute, Matthew Wilkie made a precise shot to the right of Arthur Barns. Glasgow Rangers FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Guy McIan in the 79th minute of play forced St.Mirren's goalkeeper Walter Wylie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Glasgow Rangers FC's Ben Buchan got a free kick in the 81st minute. Edmond McInnes kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. Walter Wylie made a fantastic save in the 89th minute, when Ben Buchan sent off a good shot on target. If Gregor Menzies had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Norman Boyle took the ball and in the 95 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Arthur Barns. Arthur Barns dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-3.
