To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 46th minute, Norberto Avelar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lourenço Cruz took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 48th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Paulo Leite. Arcangel's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rui Gueifão was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute, Hipólito Vale reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Paulo Leite. The goal made the score 3-2. In the 57th minute Manuel Eiró shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hélio Caetano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. FC Vila Nova's Rogério Barroso managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Hermenegildo Raposo in the 86 minute of the game. 87 minutes into the match, Arcangel's goalkeeper Paulo Leite had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hipólito Vale. Hermenegildo Brandão hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. Hipólito Vale took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Paulo Leite.
