When Santiago Simões fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored PauGrande's protests and gave Santiago Simões a yellow card for diving instead. In the 23rd minute, Santiago Simões hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 26 minutes into the match, Norberto Soares notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Caranga's António Freitas. António Freitas was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Domingos Gusmão had great luck who in the 30thth minute grab hold of the ball when Eliseu Ferro from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. With a little luck, PauGrande's Domingos Gusmão got control of the ball when Silvano Estrela tried to sneak it across the goal line. Carlos Carvalhal's late challenge caught a Caranga's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Carlos Carvalhal helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Caranga booed when PauGrande was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Carvalhal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Domingos Gusmão didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Silvano Estrela went, in the 38th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-2 was the resulting score. Domingos Gusmão took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseu Ferro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Pedro Menezes, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 45 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The António Freitas was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

In the 51st minute Eliseu Ferro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Domingos Gusmão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Domingos Gusmão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eliseu Ferro in the 55th minute of play. When Pedro Menezes came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the PauGrande fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pedro Menezes couldn't finish the play. António Freitas made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Norberto Soares sent off a good shot on target. António Freitas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Igor Santos in the 65th minute of the match. Eliseu Viana hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. If Eliseu Ferro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Domingos Gusmão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Caires, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. In the 76th minute Silvano Estrela shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Domingos Gusmão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carlos Carvalhal's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but António Freitas read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 79th minute of play.
