The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Zeferino Ramos had several of the NewBarcel's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 5 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Julião Vidigal as he didn't even see the shot coming. A collision led to NewBarcel getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Leal Aires hit a great ball. Julião Vidigal was a little too slow when Zeferino Ramos got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 10th minute. The score was now 2-0. In the 13th match minute, NewBarcel was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Januário Vieira to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of NewBarcel booed when Leça da Palmeira F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alcides Gomes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Durval Liberato made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgar Nascimento in the 18th minute of play. Vladimiro Matias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julião Vidigal read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. Durval Liberato took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgar Nascimento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in NewBarcel's zone, Vladimiro Matias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julião Vidigal came out of the goal and Vladimiro Matias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of NewBarcel booed when Leça da Palmeira F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vladimiro Matias didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 34 played minutes Leça da Palmeira F.C got a freekick which was hit by Jerónimo Távora. 42 minutes into the match, Leça da Palmeira F.C's Vladimiro Matias sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julião Vidigal narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Pedro Regalado fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Leça da Palmeira F.C's protests and gave Pedro Regalado a yellow card for diving instead. After 43 played minutes Leça da Palmeira F.C got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Regalado. NewBarcel's attentive Januário Vieira managed to snatch the ball when Joaquim Guarda made a throw-in in the 45th minute of the game.

When Leal Aires came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the NewBarcel fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leal Aires couldn't finish the play. Julião Vidigal stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Vladimiro Matias's shot from short distance in the 57th minute. In the game's 58th minute Leça da Palmeira F.C's Pedro Regalado took a hard shot from long distance, a kick which went into the net just to the right of Julião Vidigal and thus the score was 3-0. In the 63rd match minute, NewBarcel was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valentim Soares to maneuver through the defense. Zeferino Ramos struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Julião Vidigal didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Leça da Palmeira F.C. 68 minutes into the match, Edgar Nascimento notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Leça da Palmeira F.C's Durval Liberato. Zeferino Ramos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Julião Vidigal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pedro Regalado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vladimiro Matias in the 87th minute of play forced NewBarcel's goalkeeper Julião Vidigal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jerónimo Távora might have been able to make a better finish in the 92nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julião Vidigal. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jerónimo Távora ran back to his position shaking his head. Julião Vidigal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zeferino Ramos in the 94th minute of play. When Leça da Palmeira F.C's Zeferino Ramos in the 95th minute got a chance for a shot 95th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye NewBarcel's goalie prevented a goal.
