After 24 minutes, Fionn McJohnny mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Galway Footballers and the Sandyford players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Sandyford booed when Galway Footballers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fionn McJohnny didn't get a good kick on the ball. Donal Hamilton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bradon Tierney, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In a very dangerous position, a player in Galway Footballers fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 36th minute. Penalty! Cormac Dalton shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Bradon Tierney sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Donal Hamilton prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
