Dundalk FC's Fintan Doherty proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 6th minute of the match, managed to save Dundalk FC from getting a goal against them. Barhart Costello might have been able to make a better finish in the 7th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fintan Doherty. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Barhart Costello ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pearse McWilliam got free with Fintan Doherty in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The audience was convinced that Barhart Costello's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fintan Doherty was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. A collision led to St. James Gate F.C. getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Hewney Kirby hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oliver Robinson in the 23rd minute of play forced St. James Gate F.C.'s goalkeeper Brigid Rutherford to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pearse McWilliam might have been able to make a better finish in the 26th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fintan Doherty. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Pearse McWilliam ran back to his position shaking his head. After 26 played minutes Dundalk FC got a freekick which was hit by Oliver Robinson. When St. James Gate F.C.'s Barhart Costello in the 27th minute got a chance for a shot 27th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Fintan Doherty, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Fintan Doherty took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Barhart Costello, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 40th match minute, Dundalk FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Oliver Robinson to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Dundalk FC's Fintan Doherty got control of the ball when Pearse McWilliam tried to sneak it across the goal line.

The audience was convinced that Barhart Costello's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fintan Doherty was relentless in the 58th minute of the game. In the 63rd minute, Pearse McWilliam made a precise shot to the right of Fintan Doherty. Dundalk FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. Fintan Doherty made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Barhart Costello in the 66th minute of play. After 77 played minutes Dundalk FC got a freekick which was hit by Sherlock Hunt. 78 minutes into the game, Pearse McWilliam cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 6-0. Fintan Doherty was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Barhart Costello sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The supporters of St. James Gate F.C. booed when Dundalk FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sherlock Hunt didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 83 minutes of play, St. James Gate F.C.'s Barhart Costello made it 7-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fintan Doherty was left in no man's land by his defense there! Pearse McWilliam took the ball and in the 91 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fintan Doherty. Fintan Doherty dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 8-0. When the referee ended the match the St. James Gate F.C. players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
