Brian Toulson might have been able to make a better finish in the 3rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tim Cahill. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. The referee ignored Long Hanborough City's protests and gave Glyn Griffiths a yellow card for diving instead. In the 41st minute Denis Blake shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dale Sandell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The wind increased when Thomas Emmerson made the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Clive Hubbard got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 58 minutes into the match, Long Hanborough City's goal looked a bit too open when Denis Blake came free, but Dale Sandell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Long Hanborough City's Thomas Emmerson got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dale Sandell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Denis Blake, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. The supporters of Southwark booed when Long Hanborough City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Johnnie Gallacher didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 74thth minute of the game Clive Hubbard who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Long Hanborough City's Dale Sandell was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Denis Blake fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dale Sandell having to interfere. In the 84th minute of the match, Thomas Emmerson tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Tim Cahill saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Clive Hubbard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dale Sandell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Clive Hubbard, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
