Spectators: 6707 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1707, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Jeremy Hepburn kicked off to start the match. In the 3rdth minute of the game Jeremy Hepburn who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Barrow upon Humber City's Pat Slade was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 6 minutes into the match, Newport FC's Jeremy Hepburn sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Pat Slade narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Pat Slade didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ivan Lomas went, in the 9th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Pat Slade showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kev Murtagh in the 12th minute of the match. If Jeremy Hepburn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jacob Clark during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Kev Murtagh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newport FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Kev Murtagh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pat Slade breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 27thth minute of the game Kev Murtagh who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Barrow upon Humber City's Pat Slade was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Jeff Wild was out of position in the 28 minute of play, and Jacob Clark capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Jacob Clark really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. The audience was convinced that Kev Murtagh's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pat Slade was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. Pat Slade took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jeremy Hepburn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jacob Clark fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeff Wild having to interfere. Jeff Wild showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sol Vassell in the 37th minute of the match. Ivan Lomas took the ball and in the 40 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Pat Slade. Pat Slade dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alfie Mortlock got free with Jeff Wild in the 44th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 46th minute Kev Murtagh shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pat Slade saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Sol Vassell was the one to do the kick off. In the 52nd minute, Jeremy Hepburn got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Kev Murtagh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pat Slade having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jeremy Hepburn in the 71st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pat Slade prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 73 minutes into the match, Barrow upon Humber City's goal looked a bit too open when Ivan Lomas came free, but Pat Slade reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pat Fitzsymon, 84 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Kev Murtagh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Pat Slade made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jeremy Hepburn in the 87th minute of play. In the 88th match minute, Barrow upon Humber City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jacob Clark to maneuver through the defense. In the 91st minute, Gav Dimmock hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ivan Lomas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Pat Slade made a huge save. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Newport FC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
