When Tod Bartlett fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored shirebrook united's protests and gave Tod Bartlett a yellow card for diving instead. In the 31st minute, Tod Bartlett hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The wind increased when Jerome Afful made the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Tony Gates managed to get in a good position for a shot. F.C Lech Poznan's supporters rose to their feet, but Tony Gates was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carl Dowrick breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 81st minute Jerome Afful shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tony Newland saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jerome Afful in the 85th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tony Newland saved F.C Lech Poznan from getting behind. F.C Lech Poznan's Tony Newland played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jonny Sheehan in the 89th minute of play. Tony Gates received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Carl Dowrick tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. shirebrook united's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
