Manchester City's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Stew Osborn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gerry Birch having to interfere. Ilkeston FC Champ's Gerry Birch proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save Ilkeston FC Champ from getting a goal against them. 23 minutes in the game, Calvin Wakefield fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Gerry Birch having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Ilkeston FC Champ's Eddy Norton got a free kick in the 24th minute. Stewart Hepburn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lance Best in the 33rd minute of the match. Gerry Birch took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Calvin Wakefield, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Donny Chambers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Ilkeston FC Champ's Gerry Birch got control of the ball when Stew Osborn tried to sneak it across the goal line. Don Edmunds kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. Stewart Hepburn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lance Best, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute.

Gerry Birch took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Calvin Wakefield, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gerry Birch came out of the goal in the 59th minute to try and stop a shot by Manchester City's Stew Osborn. But to his dismay, Stew Osborn quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. A hard shot 64 in the game by Donny Chambers from a close distance when the talented Stewart Hepburn managed to make a qualified save. Manchester City's players were relieved. Alfred Hales's late challenge caught a Ilkeston FC Champ's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alfred Hales helped the player get up and apologised. In the 72nd minute, Alfred Hales hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Manchester City's Calvin Wakefield in the 76th minute got a chance for a shot 76th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ilkeston FC Champ's goalie prevented a goal. After 79 minutes of play Manchester City's Alfred Hales was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. Ilkeston FC Champ's Gerry Birch played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stew Osborn in the 86th minute of play. Gerry Birch made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bruce Batty in the 90th minute of play. Austin Hanley's late challenge caught a Manchester City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
