Mickey Beevers started the match with the kick off. Sid Rockett's late challenge caught a Doncaster Rovers's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sid Rockett helped the player get up and apologised. In the 3rd match minute, Harpenden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sid Rockett to maneuver through the defense. When Rodney Holmes fell near the penalty area in the 5th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Doncaster Rovers's protests and gave Rodney Holmes a yellow card for diving instead. Rodney Holmes kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. In the 6th minute, Adam Cotton sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Doncaster Rovers's Dan Nash didn't even have to move. In the 11th minute, Harpenden's Mickey Beevers ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Dan Nash. Dan Nash yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Antony Fairfax struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Andre Hay didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Doncaster Rovers. With a little luck, Doncaster Rovers's Dan Nash got control of the ball when Byron Maskell tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 17th minute, Adam Cotton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 23rdth minute of the game Antony Fairfax who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Harpenden's Andre Hay was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mickey Beevers in the 25th minute of play forced Doncaster Rovers's goalkeeper Dan Nash to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 28 minutes into the match, Antony Fairfax had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Andre Hay. Harpenden's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Antony Fairfax was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Dan Nash made an important save on a dangerous shot by Byron Maskell in the 32nd minute. Sonny Stamp charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Sonny Stamp the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. If Wayne Bensley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Antony Fairfax to make the kick off. Harpenden's Andre Hay proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Harpenden from getting a goal against them. Dan Nash showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Micheal Bullock in the 58th minute of the match. Byron Maskell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Dan Nash tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 69 minutes into the match, Doncaster Rovers's goal looked a bit too open when Sid Rockett came free, but Dan Nash reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Doncaster Rovers's Dan Nash played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Byron Maskell in the 74th minute of play. Adam Cotton hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Martin Bayford sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 78th minute, Sid Rockett hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Antony Fairfax came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Doncaster Rovers fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Antony Fairfax couldn't finish the play. William Hunter kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Dan Nash showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Byron Maskell, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Martin Bayford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Andre Hay tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Doncaster Rovers's zone, Mickey Beevers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dan Nash came out of the goal and Mickey Beevers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 90 minutes into the game, William Hunter was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Doncaster Rovers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Harpenden the free kick. William Hunter hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. In the 92nd minute of the match Adam Cotton sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dan Nash skillfully saved the ball. The supporters of Harpenden booed when Doncaster Rovers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sonny Stamp didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dan Nash didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Micheal Bullock went, in the 96th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score.
