With an all-out effort, Worthing United's Richard Kalischer threw himself towards the right post 3 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Olly Wooding, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 7th minute Olly Wooding shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Kalischer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Wirral Blues's Richard Kalischer got control of the ball when Sid Auckland tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 13th match minute, Wirral Blues was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Trevor Jefferies to maneuver through the defense. After 14 played minutes Olly Wooding could catch the ball where he stood relatively free a bit outside the goal and without hesitation he completed 1-0 into the left cross. Worthing United's Shaun Carragher suffered a sore thigh after 20 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Trevor Jefferies charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Trevor Jefferies the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Worthing United booed when Wirral Blues was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Trevor Jefferies didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dom Braithwaite's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eric May read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Wirral Blues's Richard Kalischer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to save Wirral Blues from getting a goal against them. Geoff Watts received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Eric May tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Sid Auckland came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Worthing United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sid Auckland couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sid Auckland got free with Richard Kalischer in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sid Auckland sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Wirral Blues booed when Worthing United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eddie Eglington didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Geoff Watts had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Sid Auckland struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Richard Kalischer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Worthing United. When Josh Sheene came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Worthing United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Josh Sheene couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the Wirral Blues defense, Sid Auckland kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Richard Kalischer. The Wirral Blues fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Richard Kalischer should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Wirral Blues's zone, Sid Auckland stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Richard Kalischer came out of the goal and Sid Auckland tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Worthing United had played much better football throughout.
