In the 38th minute Ryan Childs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brian Cordingley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 39th minute, Peter Masters hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Kevin Jewson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Clive Adamson having to interfere. Lenny Endean hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Kevin Jewson stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st match minute, England was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matty Emberson to maneuver through the defense. Ryan Childs's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brian Cordingley read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 54th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Kevin Jewson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Everton FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Kevin Jewson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. With his leg Brian Cordingley managed to avoid a goal in the 72ndth minute, when England's Peter Masters fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After having played for 73 minutes, Ryan Childs managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. England's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ryan Childs was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kevin Jewson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Jeremy Holdsworth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Everton FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 80th minute, when Peter Masters scored to the left of an out of position Brian Cordingley, making the score, 0-2. Brian Cordingley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Peter Masters, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Peter Masters in the 92nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Brian Cordingley prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The England supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing England would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
