The supporters of Keighley FC booed when Wakefield Vikings was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. The referee ignored Wakefield Vikings's protests and gave Gordon Patton a yellow card for diving instead. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ritchie Holdcroft to strike the kick off in the second half. Ritchie Holdcroft received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Buster Ashton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 61 played minutes, Wakefield Vikings's Jez Dyson shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Buster Ashton came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Wakefield Vikings reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Laurence Shakespeare in the 63rd minute of play forced Wakefield Vikings's goalkeeper Ash Charles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Keighley FC played a much better game than Wakefield Vikings and deserved their victory. The Wakefield Vikings players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
