Newark's Patrick Grantham got a good chance for a goal in the 10th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Eddy Turner showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Len Dunne in the 12th minute of the match. Brandon Godsall kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlton Booker in the 24th minute of play forced Rowner's goalkeeper Wesley Wellings to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 28th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newark's goalkeeper Eddy Turner, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Carlton Booker might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wesley Wellings. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Carlton Booker ran back to his position shaking his head. Rowner's Wesley Wellings played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlton Booker in the 33rd minute of play. Wesley Wellings showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlton Booker, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Patrick Grantham received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Wesley Wellings tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dean Banks hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. In the 43rd minute, Vern Kinsey hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 44th minute, Patrick Grantham left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Newark fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Len Dunne to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Chesney Alsop hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Len Dunne had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eddy Turner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Len Dunne in the 60th minute of play. After 62 minutes Newark's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Eddy Kellaway who took care of the corner kick. The supporters of Newark booed when Rowner was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. John-Paul Hardcastle didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patrick Grantham in the 66th minute of play forced Rowner's goalkeeper Wesley Wellings to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Shane Hornsby fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eddy Turner having to interfere. Len Dunne sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 72 played minutes Newark got a freekick which was hit by Franz Butters. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Len Dunne in the 78th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Eddy Turner saved Newark from getting behind. After 80 minutes of play, Rowner's Len Dunne made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Eddy Turner was left in no man's land by his defense there! Patrick Grantham received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Wesley Wellings came out and tried to block the shot, but Patrick Grantham slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 84th minute. Wesley Wellings made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patrick Grantham in the 87th minute of play. Eddy Turner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Shane Hornsby, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Len Dunne managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rowner's supporters rose to their feet, but Len Dunne was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eddy Turner breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Shane Hornsby received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Eddy Turner tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Newark players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
