Newbiggin FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Kieran Knott ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind Co Durham FC's goalkeeper Stuart Brookes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 47th minute of the match Jude Featherstone sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Justin Hilton skillfully saved the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Andrew Batty's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Justin Hilton read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 52nd minute of play. In the 65th minute, Andrew Batty fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. In the 75th match minute, Newbiggin FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eric Crosby to maneuver through the defense. Co Durham FC's Kieran Knott shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 77th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Justin Hilton but with some difficulty. After having played for 80 minutes, Andrew Batty managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Co Durham FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andrew Batty was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 83rd minute, Newbiggin FC's Ralf Hopton seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Ralf Hopton the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Newbiggin FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Ralf Hopton had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After a rather tough play, Newbiggin FC's Ralf Hopton got a free kick in the 84th minute. If Archie Green had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. Archie Green received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Justin Hilton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Co Durham FC were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
