With a little luck, Tottenham Hotspurs's John-Paul Gunn got control of the ball when Crispin Weston tried to sneak it across the goal line. Teddy Sheene was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 14th minute. Middlesbrough F.C's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Crispin Weston sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Teddy Sheene struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. John-Paul Gunn didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Middlesbrough F.C. John-Paul Gunn stood somewhat misplaced when Teddy Sheene came free in front of goal and shot 1-0 to the left of him in the 24 minute. If Fraser Warne had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bruce Starr fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Steve Townsley having to interfere. Bruce Starr received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Steve Townsley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 35th match minute, Middlesbrough F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hayden Mallaby to maneuver through the defense. Middlesbrough F.C's Steve Townsley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pete Bridgewater in the 37th minute of play. John-Paul Gunn made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Crispin Weston sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teddy Sheene in the 42nd minute of play forced Tottenham Hotspurs's goalkeeper John-Paul Gunn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The wind increased when Teddy Sheene made the kick off in the second half. John-Paul Gunn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Crispin Weston in the 52nd minute of play. In the 53rd minute Teddy Sheene shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John-Paul Gunn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tyrone Delaney hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Crispin Weston received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. John-Paul Gunn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 58 minutes into the match, Pete Bridgewater notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Middlesbrough F.C's Steve Townsley. Steve Townsley was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 62 minutes into the game, Jude Stayton was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Middlesbrough F.C's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tottenham Hotspurs the free kick. The supporters of Tottenham Hotspurs booed when Middlesbrough F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jude Stayton didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 65 minutes, Teddy Sheene mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Middlesbrough F.C and the Tottenham Hotspurs players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 66th minute, Teddy Sheene hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. John-Paul Gunn came out of the goal in the 73rd minute to try and stop a shot by Middlesbrough F.C's Teddy Sheene. But to his dismay, Teddy Sheene quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Middlesbrough F.C's Jude Stayton got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Tottenham Hotspurs's goalkeeper John-Paul Gunn, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Teddy Sheene recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. John-Paul Gunn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teddy Sheene in the 89th minute of play. 89 minutes into the game, Liam Tully was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Tottenham Hotspurs's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Middlesbrough F.C the free kick. After 90 played minutes Tottenham Hotspurs got a freekick which was hit by Liam Tully. Crispin Weston fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without John-Paul Gunn having to interfere. Teddy Sheene took the ball and in the 93 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised John-Paul Gunn. John-Paul Gunn dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Middlesbrough F.C had played much better football throughout.
