Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Verne Brennan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bill Medlin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. In the 9th minute Cliff Paley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bill Medlin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cliff Paley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpected shot in the 15th minute by Alan Noble got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Flushing FC's Bill Medlin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cliff Paley in the 18th minute of play. Bill Medlin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gaz Draper, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 25 minutes into the game, one of Flushing FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 26th minute there was a penalty for Stocksbridge FC. Guy Rider stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Bill Medlin. 1-1. Huey Bloom received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Jude Sykes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alan Noble could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Jude Sykes made a huge save. If Verne Brennan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Stocksbridge FC's Cliff Paley in 42 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Bill Medlin guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. In the 44th minute Cliff Paley suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. After 44 minutes, Matt Wildman mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Flushing FC and the Stocksbridge FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Flushing FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 43rd minute. Penalty! The referee gave Stocksbridge FC a penalty, 46 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Guy Rider, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Flushing FC's Bill Medlin. 1-2. After the first half Stocksbridge FC were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Huey Bloom to strike the kick off in the second half. Flushing FC's Bill Medlin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Flushing FC from getting a goal against them. Alan Noble struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Jude Sykes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Flushing FC. Huey Bloom fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jude Sykes having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Alan Noble managed to get in a good position for a shot. Flushing FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Alan Noble was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jude Sykes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Verne Brennan's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 63rdth minute, Bill Medlin skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Kevin Aspinall sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Verne Brennan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Bill Medlin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 72 minutes, Benji Berryman mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Flushing FC and the Stocksbridge FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. 77 minutes into the match, Flushing FC's goalkeeper Bill Medlin had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Verne Brennan. If Verne Brennan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gaz Draper sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Travis Mills hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. If Verne Brennan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. A collision led to Flushing FC getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Clive Goldthorpe hit a great ball. In the 92nd minute of the game, Verne Brennan landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. After 93 minutes, Rex Cullen mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Flushing FC and the Stocksbridge FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 92 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Flushing FC! Bill Medlin went to the wrong direction when Guy Rider was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Flushing FC's zone, Gaz Draper stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bill Medlin came out of the goal and Gaz Draper tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Stocksbridge FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Stocksbridge FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
