Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) South Shields's Ollie Stockdale started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Stuart Welch recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 4th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mathias Terpstra struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. Vince Piercy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Husbands. Charles Hurst was out of position in the 12 minute of play, and Neil Slade capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Neil Slade really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Charles Hurst made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ollie Stockdale in the 16th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, Mathias Terpstra notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of South Shields's Vince Piercy. Vince Piercy was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Erubiel Ignazio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 26 played minutes Husbands got a freekick which was hit by Ruben Folan. In the 27th minute of the match Cliff Stockdale sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Charles Hurst skillfully saved the ball. In the 31st minute Damian Meadowcroft shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vince Piercy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Johnnie Holland during the 34th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 34th match minute, South Shields was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Johnnie Holland to maneuver through the defense. In the 35th minute of the match Ruben Folan sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Vince Piercy skillfully saved the ball. Stuart Welch kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Vince Piercy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Damian Meadowcroft, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. During the 38th minute of the match Ruben Folan completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Ruben Folan a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to Husbands getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Ruben Folan hit a great ball. Vince Piercy stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mathias Terpstra's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. Damian Meadowcroft sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 48th minute, Mathias Terpstra got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mathias Terpstra was the one to do the kick off. Charles Hurst made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Neil Slade in the 58th minute of play. The supporters of Husbands booed when South Shields was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adrian Wildman didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 62nd minute, Erubiel Ignazio managed to get in a good position for a shot. Husbands's supporters rose to their feet, but Erubiel Ignazio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vince Piercy breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 64 minutes into the match, Mathias Terpstra notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of South Shields's Vince Piercy. Neil Slade fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Hurst having to interfere. In the 87th minute Neil Slade shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Charles Hurst saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 88th minute, Stuart Welch hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Vince Piercy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mathias Terpstra, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Husbands's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
