The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute, Kris Mulford made a precise shot to the right of Graeme Silk. RonnyFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Graeme Silk showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Blair Nancy in the 6th minute of the match. In the 8th minute Leigh Barnes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lucas Kirk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 12 minutes into the match, Leigh AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Leigh Barnes came free, but Lucas Kirk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. RonnyFC were awarded a corner in the 14th minute after Leigh AFC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Austin Fisher took the corner. David Prutton made in the 17th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Vern Argent immediately put the ball in play. Lucas Kirk made an important save on a dangerous shot by Archie Speight in the 19th minute. After a defensive mix-up in RonnyFC's zone, Blair Nancy stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Graeme Silk came out of the goal and Blair Nancy tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Vern Argent kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. RonnyFC's Graeme Silk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Blair Nancy in the 33rd minute of play. Leigh AFC's Kris Mulford got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jim Stayton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Graeme Silk having to interfere. Garth Hickson hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Archie Speight was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Leigh AFC's Eddy Backhouse got a free kick in the 50th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Blair Nancy got free with Graeme Silk in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 57th match minute, RonnyFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Barrie Griffin to maneuver through the defense. Lucas Kirk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jo Saunders in the 64th minute of play. RonnyFC's Garth Hickson suffered a sore thigh after 65 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Jim Stayton kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. 68 minutes into the match, Leigh Barnes notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Leigh AFC's Lucas Kirk. Lucas Kirk was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 71 played minutes Leigh AFC got a freekick which was hit by Jim Stayton. 72 minutes into the match, Leigh AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Archie Speight came free, but Lucas Kirk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 82 minutes into the match, Leigh AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Jo Saunders came free, but Lucas Kirk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jermaine Senior didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Leigh AFC's zone, Archie Speight stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lucas Kirk came out of the goal and Archie Speight tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 93rd minute, Leigh Barnes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The RonnyFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. 96 minutes into the match, Barrie Griffin had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lucas Kirk. Leigh AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Barrie Griffin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-2. Leigh AFC's Frankie Higgins was substituted for Jim Stayton.
