Pierre Bridge fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without John England having to interfere. Ashley Driver took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gwyn Boyes. Gwyn Boyes dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. A collision led to Great Yarmouth getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Pierre Bridge hit a great ball. Rory Downham fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gwyn Boyes having to interfere. Freddy Vine had several of the Hilsea's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 30 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-1 score and a disappointed John England as he didn't even see the shot coming. 32 minutes into the match, Hilsea's goal looked a bit too open when Brian Keane came free, but John England reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rory Downham in the 36th minute of play forced Great Yarmouth's goalkeeper Gwyn Boyes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Great Yarmouth's Freddy Vine in the 37th minute got a chance for a shot 37th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. When Rory Downham came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Hilsea fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rory Downham couldn't finish the play. In the 46th minute Rory Downham shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gwyn Boyes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

In the 52nd minute of the match Damien Nicoll sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but John England skillfully saved the ball. Gwyn Boyes was a little too slow when Ashley Driver got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 54th minute. The score was now 1-3. The audience was convinced that Freddy Vine's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but John England was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. In the 61st minute, Great Yarmouth's Nick Burns seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Nick Burns the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Great Yarmouth protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Nick Burns had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 61 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Great Yarmouth! With a little luck, Great Yarmouth's Gwyn Boyes got control of the ball when Kenny Dobson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Great Yarmouth's Gwyn Boyes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to save Great Yarmouth from getting a goal against them. Great Yarmouth's Gwyn Boyes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rory Downham in the 80th minute of play. If Ashley Driver had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rory Downham struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Gwyn Boyes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hilsea. Gwyn Boyes made a fantastic save in the 88th minute, when Christopher Gray sent off a good shot on target. 93 minutes into the match, Great Yarmouth's goal looked a bit too open when Ashley Driver came free, but Gwyn Boyes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gwyn Boyes made a fantastic save in the 94th minute, when Ashley Driver sent off a good shot on target. Seth Sharples hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. In the 98th minute of the match, Ashley Driver got a very nice opportunity to score, but Gwyn Boyes was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. When the match was over Hilsea could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Great Yarmouth throughout the match.
