Peter Ivarsson's late challenge caught a Olympique Marseille's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Peter Ivarsson helped the player get up and apologised. Nils-Emil Frisk fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kurt Lång having to interfere. Kurt Lång showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jens-Ove Lindholm, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Ronny Örnberg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bengt-Rune Sjöberg having to interfere. Bengt-Rune Sjöberg was a little too slow when Ronny Örnberg got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 25th minute. The score was now 1-0. In the 27th minute, Nils-Emil Frisk hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Olympique Marseille's Bengt-Rune Sjöberg proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Olympique Marseille from getting a goal against them. In the 37th minute, Petter Abrahamsson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jens-Ove Lindholm in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kurt Lång saved Ljungby IK from getting behind. Kurt Lång made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hans Ahlroth in the 42nd minute of play. Ronny Örnberg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Bengt-Rune Sjöberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Kurt Lång made a fantastic save in the 58th minute, when Nils-Emil Frisk sent off a good shot on target. When Ljungby IK's Ronny Örnberg in the 60th minute got a chance for a shot 60th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Olympique Marseille's goalie prevented a goal. Ljungby IK's Kurt Lång played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jens-Ove Lindholm in the 67th minute of play. After 70 minutes of play Ljungby IK's Peter Ivarsson was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 72nd minute, Jens-Ove Lindholm fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Jens-Ove Lindholm sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edward Pilgren kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. In the 88th minute Jens-Ove Lindholm shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kurt Lång saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jens-Ove Lindholm fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kurt Lång having to interfere. Nils-Emil Frisk sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Olympique Marseille walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
