The shot was stopped by Harry Boman but with some difficulty. Nils-Emil Frisk received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Harry Boman tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 11th minute, Olympique Marseille's Jens-Ove Lindholm dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. 15 minutes into the match, Olympique Marseille's goal looked a bit too open when Sven-Ove Östman came free, but Bengt-Rune Sjöberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hans Ahlroth during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 23 played minutes Olympique Marseille got a freekick which was hit by Hans Ahlroth. Nils-Emil Frisk blasted a shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Harry Boman having to make a save. Oskar Tholsson hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Olympique Marseille's Stig Högman tried to score from far away in the 32nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Harry Boman was out of position in the 34 minute of play, and Jens-Ove Lindholm capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Jens-Ove Lindholm really showed his touch with that goal: 3-1. Jan-Åke Arvidsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Bengt-Rune Sjöberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Bengt-Rune Sjöberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jan-Åke Arvidsson in the 41st minute of the match. In the 43rd minute, Nils-Emil Frisk got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

If Nils-Emil Frisk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sven-Ove Östman blasted a shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Bengt-Rune Sjöberg having to make a save. Sven-Ove Östman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kenneth Juhlin hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Jan-Åke Arvidsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bengt-Rune Sjöberg having to interfere. 74 minutes into the match, Manchester kavaj's goal looked a bit too open when Nils-Emil Frisk came free, but Harry Boman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Jan-Åke Arvidsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 82 minutes Olympique Marseille's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Vilgot Falkrans who took care of the corner kick. 83 minutes into the game, Nils-Emil Frisk was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Olympique Marseille's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Manchester kavaj the free kick. Bengt-Rune Sjöberg was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Vilgot Falkrans. Bengt-Rune Sjöberg made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jan-Åke Arvidsson in the 85th minute. Jens-Ove Lindholm fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Harry Boman having to interfere. The supporters of Olympique Marseille booed when Manchester kavaj was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oskar Tholsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Olympique Marseille had won after a very even match.
