João Jesus came out and tried to block the shot, but Fryderyk Anszczak slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 39th minute. Norbert Ziemba might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over João Jesus. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Norbert Ziemba ran back to his position shaking his head. Fryderyk Anszczak's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but João Jesus read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Justo Iraitz to make the kick off. João Jesus showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Florian Cieslak, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute.
