The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd match minute, Chivas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Boukjan Theissen to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Kalkwijk getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Jan-Peter Thomasse hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Jan Brouwers's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Peter van Amersfoort was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rogier Hoffhuis during the 16th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Rogier Hoffhuis hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. When Dick van Rijswijk came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Chivas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dick van Rijswijk couldn't finish the play. Gerald Muskee showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Michael Tamminga in the 29th minute of the match. After having played for 36 minutes, Dick van Rijswijk managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Chivas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dick van Rijswijk was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After having played for 38 minutes, Boudewijn Middeljans managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. 53 minutes into the game, Dick van Rijswijk cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Peter van Amersfoort was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dick van Rijswijk in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Peter van Amersfoort prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Dick van Rijswijk sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dick van Rijswijk fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter van Amersfoort having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Boudewijn Middeljans in the 67th minute a chance for a shot on goal. Chivas's defense didn't have a chance, in the 71st minute, when Michael Tamminga scored to the left of an out of position Gerald Muskee, making the score, 1-1. After having played for 74 minutes, Boudewijn Middeljans managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Chivas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Boudewijn Middeljans was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dick van Rijswijk took the ball and in the 76 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Peter van Amersfoort. Peter van Amersfoort dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After 81 played minutes Chivas got a freekick which was hit by Jan Brouwers. Gerald Muskee showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mirko Vrieze, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. Peter van Amersfoort made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dick van Rijswijk in the 84th minute of play. Boudewijn Middeljans received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Peter van Amersfoort tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 90thth minute of the game Dick van Rijswijk who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Kalkwijk's Peter van Amersfoort was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Chivas's Boudewijn Middeljans got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. There was no doubt that Chivas were the better team. Chivas's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
