Bart Post was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marcus Luijpers got free with Dean Verbruggen in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in MVV Maastricht's zone, Marcus Luijpers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dean Verbruggen came out of the goal and Marcus Luijpers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 27 minutes into the match, MVV Maastricht's goal looked a bit too open when Mirko Oevermans came free, but Dean Verbruggen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dean Verbruggen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mathieu Trenning in the 29th minute of play. The supporters of MVV Maastricht booed when FC Saleen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Laurens van Dalen didn't get a good kick on the ball. The FC Saleen players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. MVV Maastricht were winning 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mathieu Trenning to make the kick off. MVV Maastricht walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
