Bart Post took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Klaus Borgman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 7 minutes into the match, VVS's goalkeeper Hubert Rijkaard had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marcus Luijpers. The supporters of FC Saleen booed when VVS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ger Ijsselhof didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 9th minute, Erwin Opdam sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and VVS's Hubert Rijkaard didn't even have to move. In the 10th match minute, VVS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eddy Verweijen to maneuver through the defense. Mirko Oevermans received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Hubert Rijkaard tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hubert Rijkaard showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mirko Oevermans in the 16th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mathieu Trenning in the 17th minute of play forced VVS's goalkeeper Hubert Rijkaard to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mathieu Trenning fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hubert Rijkaard having to interfere. In the 26th minute, Mirko Oevermans reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Hubert Rijkaard. The goal made the score 1-0. FC Saleen's Bart Post played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Klaus Borgman in the 29th minute of play. In the 32nd minute, Mathieu Trenning ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Hubert Rijkaard was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. In the 36th minute, Marcus Luijpers made a precise shot to the right of Hubert Rijkaard. VVS's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. In the 38th minute Mirko Oevermans shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hubert Rijkaard saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hubert Rijkaard made an important save on a dangerous shot by Marcus Luijpers in the 40th minute. In the 42nd minute, FC Saleen's Mathieu Trenning ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Hubert Rijkaard. Hubert Rijkaard yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 4-0. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mathieu Trenning to make the kick off. Hubert Rijkaard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mathieu Trenning in the 53rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, FC Saleen's Mirko Oevermans got a free kick in the 54th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Wouter Heida during the 62nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. If Mathieu Trenning had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. VVS's Hubert Rijkaard played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcus Luijpers in the 94th minute of play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. FC Saleen had played much better football throughout.
