When Seagulls's Grigore Bogătean in the 6th minute got a chance for a shot 6th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye MVV Maastricht's goalie prevented a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Maurits Ruben in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Miguel Proença saved Seagulls from getting behind. The supporters of MVV Maastricht booed when Seagulls was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Milosz Zgonina didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dean Verbruggen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Michel Cremers, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Dean Verbruggen came out of the goal in the 18th minute to try and stop a shot by Seagulls's Grigore Bogătean. But to his dismay, Grigore Bogătean quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Dean Verbruggen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Michel Cremers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, MVV Maastricht's John Pothuizen got a free kick in the 24th minute. Milosz Zgonina struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Dean Verbruggen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Seagulls. When Seagulls's Michel Cremers in the 38th minute got a chance for a shot 38th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye MVV Maastricht's goalie prevented a goal. After 40 played minutes MVV Maastricht got a freekick which was hit by John Pothuizen. When the match had gone on for 45 minutes, Grigore Bogătean put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Dean Verbruggen. After the first half Seagulls were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Grigore Bogătean stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Marco Mook kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. Michel Cremers could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Dean Verbruggen made a huge save. Miguel Proença stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Maarten Colen's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. Dean Verbruggen was a little too slow when Milosz Zgonina got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 55th minute. The score was now 0-3. Dean Verbruggen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Grigore Bogătean in the 57th minute of play. Milosz Zgonina received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Dean Verbruggen came out and tried to block the shot, but Milosz Zgonina slotted it home off the left post making it 0-4 in the 59th minute. After some careless play in the MVV Maastricht defense, Michel Cremers kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dean Verbruggen. The MVV Maastricht fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dean Verbruggen should have stopped the shot. 69 minutes into the game, Milosz Zgonina cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-6. Dean Verbruggen was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When MVV Maastricht's Maarten Colen in the 76th minute got a chance for a shot 76th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Seagulls's goalie prevented a goal. 80 minutes into the match, Seagulls's Grigore Bogătean sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dean Verbruggen narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some careless play in the MVV Maastricht defense, Michel Cremers kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dean Verbruggen. The MVV Maastricht fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dean Verbruggen should have stopped the shot. Michel Cremers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Dean Verbruggen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match was over Seagulls could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than MVV Maastricht throughout the match.
