The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the match, Zijdewind SC's Gido van der Gouw sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that David van Putten narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 7th minute Michel Ellerman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mario Klompe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 10 minutes of play, Stevensbeek FC's Michel Ellerman made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mario Klompe was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Zijdewind SC booed when Stevensbeek FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elmar Schaars didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jan ter Averst's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but David van Putten firmly grabbed it by the left post. Mario Klompe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Michel Ellerman, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. Stevensbeek FC's Michel Ellerman got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Maurits van der Bij recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Stevensbeek FC's Marcel Steen got a free kick in the 31st minute. After 36 minutes of play, Stevensbeek FC's Maurits van der Bij made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mario Klompe was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a defensive mix-up in Zijdewind SC's zone, Maurits van der Bij stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mario Klompe came out of the goal and Maurits van der Bij tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 43rd minute, Maurits van der Bij made a precise shot to the right of Mario Klompe. Zijdewind SC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Damien Schimmel was the one to do the kick off. When Maurits van der Bij came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Stevensbeek FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Maurits van der Bij couldn't finish the play. Jan ter Averst received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. David van Putten tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nick Boeringe hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Michel Ellerman struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Mario Klompe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Stevensbeek FC. With his leg Mario Klompe managed to avoid a goal in the 75thth minute, when Stevensbeek FC's Michel Ellerman fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Michel Ellerman got free with Mario Klompe in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luc de Nooijer hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. Stevensbeek FC's Demy Kamps got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Mario Klompe made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Maurits van der Bij sent off a good shot on target. 84 minutes into the match, Stevensbeek FC's Michel Ellerman sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mario Klompe narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a little luck, Zijdewind SC's Mario Klompe got control of the ball when Marcel Steen tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Damien Schimmel in the 89th minute of play forced Stevensbeek FC's goalkeeper David van Putten to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. David van Putten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jan ter Averst in the 95th minute of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Stevensbeek FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
