In the 10th minute Kai Rønne shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dean Grieve saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 12 minutes had been played when some careless play by PERSPOLIS's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Hugo Guillamon was slow to take the kick. During this time Foguera's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Foguera's Hugo Guillamon to fire away a dangerous shot which Dean Grieve despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 19 minutes into the match, Foguera's goalkeeper Santiago Cañizares had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Constantino Salgado. When the match clock showed 19 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Cipriano Ganix sped through Foguera's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Santiago Cañizares. Cipriano Ganix could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Santiago Cañizares made a huge save. In the 26th minute Cipriano Ganix shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Santiago Cañizares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The PERSPOLIS fans' excitement grew in the 30th match minute when PERSPOLIS's Cipriano Ganix looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 4-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. With a couple of smart ball manuevers David Villa in the 33rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dean Grieve saved PERSPOLIS from getting behind. 34 minutes into the match, Foguera's goal looked a bit too open when Cipriano Ganix came free, but Santiago Cañizares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 36 minutes into the match, Foguera's goal looked a bit too open when Bela Herrero came free, but Santiago Cañizares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 40 minutes into the match, Foguera's goal looked a bit too open when Cipriano Ganix came free, but Santiago Cañizares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

The wind increased when Cipriano Ganix made the kick off in the second half. Anton Sundin's late challenge caught a PERSPOLIS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Anton Sundin helped the player get up and apologised. In the 55th minute, Anton Sundin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Constantino Salgado in the 59th minute of play forced Foguera's goalkeeper Santiago Cañizares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kai Rønne got free with Dean Grieve in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Foguera were awarded a corner in the 61th minute after PERSPOLIS's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Hugo Guillamon took the corner. In the 64th minute Foguera were awarded a corner. Hugo Guillamon went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Foguera's Santiago Serra to fire away a dangerous shot which Dean Grieve despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 74th minute of the match, Santiago Serra got a very nice opportunity to score, but Dean Grieve was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 75th minute, Santiago Serra got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dean Grieve made an important save on a dangerous shot by Santiago Serra in the 78th minute. PERSPOLIS's Dean Grieve proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save PERSPOLIS from getting a goal against them. In the 81st minute Foguera were awarded a corner. Hugo Guillamon went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Hugo Guillamon almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but PERSPOLIS's Dean Grieve did a great save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luis-Miguel Rienda during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 83rd minute Emiliano Quintero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Santiago Cañizares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 85 minutes, Emiliano Quintero made it 5-0 with a short kick to the right side. Foguera's Santiago Cañizares tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. The long shot by Hugo Guillamon in the 89th minute really tested Dean Grieve's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Santiago Cañizares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emiliano Quintero, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 96th minute, Ivan Rubio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Foguera's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
