The referee ignored Borussia Mönchengladbach's protests and gave Ronald Vogel a yellow card for diving instead. In the 46th minute Hendrix Zibell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Graham Hospelt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The FC Montana players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Borussia Mönchengladbach were winning 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lothar Thieringer stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Marc-Stephan Blanke dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-3. Albrecht Hospelt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Graham Hospelt having to interfere. Borussia Mönchengladbach's Hendrix Zibell got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Albrecht Hospelt scored 2-4 in the 86th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Graham Hospelt, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
