The supporters of Gladbach booed when Spall FSV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Tiedemann didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ulf Werlich fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dietmar Gingold having to interfere. Dietmar Gingold made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Maiko Gruber sent off a good shot on target. Gladbach's Ehrhard Hourani got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rutger Renz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ewald Rau went, in the 37th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ulf Werlich to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Ehrhard Hourani got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rutger Renz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ewald Rau, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rutger Renz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ewald Rau in the 97th minute of the match. Spall FSV's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
