Béla Mühlenbruch showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Berthold Howahl, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. SC Victoria Hamburg's Béla Mühlenbruch played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Berthold Howahl in the 17th minute of play. Jörn Alspach hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. 1-1 became the score in the 23rd minute when Joachim von Berg elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. If Berthold Howahl had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Patrick-Marc Püschl received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Gernot Deipenbrock tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Joachim von Berg stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Patrick-Marc Püschl's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gernot Deipenbrock read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 59th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roger Bay in the 67th minute of play forced Ihrenbrück's goalkeeper Gernot Deipenbrock to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Joachim von Berg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
