The referee ignored Karlsruhe FC's protests and gave Thorsten Kuster a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Karlsruhe FC's Thorsten Kuster got a free kick in the 3rd minute. If Florian Wolber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 8th minute, Emilio Thomaschewski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 10th minute, Florian Wolber ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Hansel Vortkamp was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. The supporters of Karlsruhe FC booed when Elters was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fredi Aichler didn't get a good kick on the ball. Heini Glomb could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Wesley Teupel made a huge save. Helge Böhm's late challenge caught a Karlsruhe FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Helge Böhm helped the player get up and apologised. Helge Böhm kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. The supporters of Karlsruhe FC booed when Elters was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fredi Aichler didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Elters getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Florian Wolber hit a great ball. Elters's Wesley Teupel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save Elters from getting a goal against them. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Florian Wolber was the one to do the kick off. Fredi Aichler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Hansel Vortkamp tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Florian Wolber sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fredi Aichler during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Fredi Aichler kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. A collision led to Karlsruhe FC getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Fjodor Lantz hit a great ball. When Fredi Aichler was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 77 minutes had been played. In the 78th match minute, Elters was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fredi Aichler to maneuver through the defense. 84 minutes into the match, Thorsten Kuster notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Elters's Wesley Teupel. Wesley Teupel was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In a very dangerous position, a player in Karlsruhe FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 87th minute. Penalty! Wesley Teupel didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Thorsten Kuster went, in the 92nd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-2 was the resulting score. Elters's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 98 minutes into the game, Bengt Heuzeroth was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Karlsruhe FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Elters the free kick. The supporters of Elters booed when Karlsruhe FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 98 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bengt Heuzeroth didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 99th minute, Florian Wolber managed to get in a good position for a shot. Elters's supporters rose to their feet, but Florian Wolber was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hansel Vortkamp breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Karlsruhe FC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Elters for a fine match.
