Spencers's Friedemann Kamp played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kai Møller in the 34th minute of play. Carl Brunar scored 1-2 in the 35th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Friedemann Kamp, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After having played for 39 minutes, Volkhard Munz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Spencers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Volkhard Munz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Gregor Streich fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Engelsby's protests and gave Gregor Streich a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Spencers booed when Engelsby was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gregor Streich didn't get a good kick on the ball. Engelsby's Hans Abendroth proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Engelsby from getting a goal against them.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Carl Brunar to make the kick off. Spencers's Volkhard Munz got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Carl Brunar in the 70th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Friedemann Kamp prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Lars Caspary managed to get in a good position for a shot. Engelsby's supporters rose to their feet, but Lars Caspary was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Friedemann Kamp breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The crowd rose to their feet as Engelsby's Carl Brunar slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Friedemann Kamp. That made the score 2-4 after 73 minutes of play. In the 78th minute Volkhard Munz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hans Abendroth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
