Rudi Haese came out of the goal and Emil Schlebusch tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gianni Scherrmann might have been able to make a better finish in the 22nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rudi Haese. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gianni Scherrmann ran back to his position shaking his head. Rudi Haese showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emil Schlebusch in the 25th minute of the match. When Enzo Grebe fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SV Hohmann's protests and gave Enzo Grebe a yellow card for diving instead. After a defensive mix-up in SV Hohmann's zone, Gianni Scherrmann stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rudi Haese came out of the goal and Gianni Scherrmann tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 28th match minute, SV Hohmann was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jacob Gabriel to maneuver through the defense. Slaven Hebel, 29 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gianni Scherrmann got free with Rudi Haese in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 37th minute, Knut Berntsen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gianni Scherrmann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Rudi Haese tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rudi Haese showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emil Schlebusch in the 41st minute of the match. After having played for 43 minutes, Folke Raimann managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SV Hohmann's supporters crossed their fingers, but Folke Raimann was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Emil Schlebusch was the one to do the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Gianni Scherrmann managed to get in a good position for a shot. Benrath's supporters rose to their feet, but Gianni Scherrmann was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rudi Haese breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 54th minute Gianni Scherrmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rudi Haese saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 57th minute the ball was on its way in behind SV Hohmann's goalkeeper Rudi Haese, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gianni Scherrmann in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rudi Haese saved SV Hohmann from getting behind. SV Hohmann's Rudi Haese played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emil Schlebusch in the 64th minute of play. In the 66th match minute, Benrath was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gianni Scherrmann to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gianni Scherrmann in the 87th minute of play forced SV Hohmann's goalkeeper Rudi Haese to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Gianni Scherrmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
