The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 11 played minutes FC Herne 08 got a freekick which was hit by Leven Eisold. After having played for 14 minutes, Gianni Scherrmann managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Benrath's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gianni Scherrmann was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Emil Schlebusch came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the Benrath fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emil Schlebusch couldn't finish the play. FC Herne 08's Stefan Ortlieb proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save FC Herne 08 from getting a goal against them. Leven Eisold kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Emil Schlebusch kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Stefan Ortlieb. That made the score 1-0 in the 21 minute of play. When FC Herne 08's Henning Amann in the 28th minute got a chance for a shot 28th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Benrath's goalie prevented a goal. Stefan Ortlieb showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emil Schlebusch, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. After a defensive mix-up in FC Herne 08's zone, Knut Berntsen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Stefan Ortlieb came out of the goal and Knut Berntsen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 40th minute, Benrath's Pete Garnschröder dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. With his leg Stefan Ortlieb managed to avoid a goal in the 46thth minute, when Benrath's Gianni Scherrmann fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Gianni Scherrmann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Stefan Ortlieb showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emil Schlebusch in the 60th minute of the match. Benni Ullmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Götz Rohmann having to interfere. A hard shot 67 in the game by Henning Amann from a close distance when the talented Götz Rohmann managed to make a qualified save. Benrath's players were relieved. Benrath's Götz Rohmann played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Benni Ullmann in the 73rd minute of play. In the 73rd match minute, Benrath was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pete Garnschröder to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Pete Garnschröder managed to get in a good position for a shot. Benrath's supporters rose to their feet, but Pete Garnschröder was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Stefan Ortlieb breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 84 played minutes Benrath got a freekick which was hit by Pete Garnschröder. In the 91st minute, Emil Schlebusch got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Benrath's Gianni Scherrmann got a good chance for a goal in the 98th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. There was no doubt that Benrath were the better team. Benrath's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
