In the 41st match minute, Hannover 96 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Florian Hochhaus to maneuver through the defense. Michael Kreikemeyer was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 42nd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Hannover 96's Michael Pöttgen proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Hannover 96 from getting a goal against them. Hannover 96's Beat Maus got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 92 minutes into the match, Manfred Kirschner notched a goal, 4-1, to the right of Hannover 96's Michael Pöttgen. Michael Pöttgen was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
