Mesut Vohwinkel's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ante Schirmer read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 9th minute of play. 11 minutes into the game, HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN's Manfred Kirschner nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ante Schirmer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN's goalkeeper Patrik Sudhoff, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, munchen fc's Eberhard Deicke got a free kick in the 20th minute. Dietmar Wisgalla sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Manfred Kirschner fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ante Schirmer having to interfere. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN's goalkeeper Patrik Sudhoff, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 39 minutes into the match, munchen fc's goal looked a bit too open when Mesut Vohwinkel came free, but Ante Schirmer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 43rd minute, Bertram Schwarz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 45 minutes into the match, HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN's goalkeeper Patrik Sudhoff had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dietmar Wisgalla. In the 47th minute, Dietmar Wisgalla got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mesut Vohwinkel to strike the kick off in the second half. Mesut Vohwinkel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mesut Vohwinkel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ante Schirmer having to interfere. A collision led to HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Michael Kölbl hit a great ball. Patrik Sudhoff made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dietmar Wisgalla in the 59th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dietmar Wisgalla in the 65th minute of play forced HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN's goalkeeper Patrik Sudhoff to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Mesut Vohwinkel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 68th match minute, HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Walther Groth to maneuver through the defense. In the 73rd minute, Felix Felix got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dietmar Wisgalla sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Patrik Sudhoff took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jörn Singer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Dietmar Wisgalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. munchen fc's Ante Schirmer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mesut Vohwinkel in the 85th minute of play. After a rather tough play, munchen fc's Mathias Jawurek got a free kick in the 88th minute. HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN's Michael Kreikemeyer shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 89th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Ante Schirmer but with some difficulty. After having played for 91 minutes, Mesut Vohwinkel managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mesut Vohwinkel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dietmar Wisgalla fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Patrik Sudhoff having to interfere. Although munchen fc had been in control for most of the match, HAMBURGER SPORT VEREIN still came away with the win.
