An unexpectedly hard shot by Marco Grabein in the 5th minute of play forced VFC Leipzig's goalkeeper Sixten Pluhm to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cornelius Baumfalk fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Johannes Brenner having to interfere. Wigalf Ulrich charged in rather forcefully in the 14th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Wigalf Ulrich the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 20 played minutes VFC Leipzig got a freekick which was hit by Nathan Goldschmidt. In the 25th minute, Polonia Bytom's Marco Grabein ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Sixten Pluhm. Sixten Pluhm yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Wigalf Ulrich recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 34th minute. When Raffael Stork fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Polonia Bytom's protests and gave Raffael Stork a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Polonia Bytom getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Raffael Stork hit a great ball.

VFC Leipzig's supporters rose to their feet, but Rolf Wering was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Johannes Brenner breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Wigalf Ulrich came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Polonia Bytom fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wigalf Ulrich couldn't finish the play. Sixten Pluhm took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marco Grabein, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Marco Grabein came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Polonia Bytom fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marco Grabein couldn't finish the play. Sixten Pluhm made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marco Grabein in the 92nd minute of play. Polonia Bytom were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
