FC Hawaii's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Lengerich 23 the free kick. After a rather tough play, FC Hawaii's Paulus Fechner got a free kick in the 3rd minute. After 6 played minutes FC Hawaii got a freekick which was hit by Werner Korff. The supporters of FC Lengerich 23 booed when FC Hawaii was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulus Fechner didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wolfram Zellier showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Werner Korff in the 16th minute of the match. Nikolaus Cayrol sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Werner Korff had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wolfram Zellier made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Nikolaus Cayrol sent off a good shot on target. In the 37th match minute, FC Lengerich 23 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guntram Janker to maneuver through the defense. After recieving a nice pass, FC Hawaii's Petrus Räder tried to score from far away in the 38th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 40 minutes into the match, FC Lengerich 23's goalkeeper Wolfram Zellier had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nikolaus Cayrol. In the 46th minute Manfred Hertz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Horst Dürr saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Manfred Hertz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 62nd match minute, FC Hawaii was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Klara Hofmeier to maneuver through the defense. Werner Korff charged in rather forcefully in the 67th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Werner Korff the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Horst Dürr acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 87th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Adrian Nützel. 88 minutes into the match, FC Lengerich 23's Wolfgang Hölderlin sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Horst Dürr narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Werner Korff's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wolfram Zellier read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
