The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Friedrich Krause came free with the goalkeeper in the 3rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Hermann Wilhelmsen could save by the left post. The long shot by Benni Bergner in the 6th minute really tested Hermann Wilhelmsen's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Stan Berger sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bolko Kalleder in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kevin Metz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Stan Berger came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the sad fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Stan Berger couldn't finish the play. After 20 minutes of play, sad's Bolko Kalleder made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Kevin Metz was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Lutz Kerschbaumer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. sad's Lutz Kerschbaumer got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Lutz Kerschbaumer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kevin Metz having to interfere. After having played for 30 minutes, Bastian Wiederhold managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. sad's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bastian Wiederhold was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 36th minute, Benni Bergner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hermann Wilhelmsen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lukas Kaltz in the 44th minute of play. Johannes Koffler was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 45 minutes into the match. Benni Bergner scored 1-1 in the 47th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Hermann Wilhelmsen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Hansjörg Kreuels in the 65th minute of play forced sad's goalkeeper Hermann Wilhelmsen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lukas Kaltz struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Hermann Wilhelmsen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Borussia Dortmund. After 71 played minutes sad got a freekick which was hit by Bastian Wiederhold. In the 72nd minute Hansjörg Kreuels shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hermann Wilhelmsen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hermann Wilhelmsen stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lukas Kaltz's shot from short distance in the 75th minute. If Lutz Kerschbaumer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of sad booed when Borussia Dortmund was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Markus Blattner didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Borussia Dortmund getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Benni Bergner hit a great ball. If Lutz Kerschbaumer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as sad's Stan Berger slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Kevin Metz. That made the score 1-2 after 89 minutes of play. When the final whistle sounded sad left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Borussia Dortmund.
