Hansjörg Kreuels could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Isidor Arendt made a huge save. Isidor Arendt made a fantastic save in the 18th minute, when Hansjörg Kreuels sent off a good shot on target. 20 minutes into the match, Arnd Vuranoglu had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Kevin Metz. Borussia Dortmund's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Arnd Vuranoglu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. In the 24thth minute of the game Henning Ripoll who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Borussia Dortmund's Kevin Metz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 25th minute Lutz Öchsle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kevin Metz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kevin Metz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Henning Ripoll, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kevin Metz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leik Fuhrmann in the 39th minute of play. When Henning Ripoll came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Ludwigsburg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Henning Ripoll couldn't finish the play. Kevin Metz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lutz Öchsle, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. The Borussia Dortmund players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ludwigsburg were winning 0-3.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Henning Ripoll made a kick off. If Lutz Öchsle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. In the 60th minute, Dennis Jagow had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. When Martin Meier fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ludwigsburg's protests and gave Martin Meier a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Ludwigsburg getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Martin Meier hit a great ball. Isidor Arendt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hansjörg Kreuels, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Friedrich Krause during the 66th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The audience was convinced that Henning Ripoll's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kevin Metz was relentless in the 96th minute of the game. When the final whistle sounded Ludwigsburg left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Borussia Dortmund.
